Together with Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO.nl) we developed the Energy Open Data Program. The main goal of the program is to challenge and support developers, designers and entrepreneurs to come up with applications based on the available RVO.nl open data that help the transition towards a more sustainable economic system.
The available (open) data within large organizations can be a valuable resources contributing to their organizational goals. However, (large) organizations often lack the agility and skills needed to develope new, state-of-the-art applications. Therefore, in order to make use of the potential of (open) data the key challenge is to attract talented people in the ecosystem of the organization.
With Outside Inc. we designed and execute the 5-month Energy Open Data Program, consisting of two phases. During the first part of this period we will challenge developers, designers and entrepreneurs to come up with new applications. This is supported through an offline ideation event and an online LinkedIn-community. On the Final Event the best application is selected, whereafter the accelerator part of the program starts. In this part the winning team will be honored the tools and support to help them to bring their application to the market.
After the Acceleration part of the program, the winning team has further developed their prototype into a validated application, including a sustainable business model. As such, they are self-sustainable and can provide services to the energy sector with the help of the RVO.nl open data.
