In 2012 Enviu and Clearlight Ventures organized the Toxic Metal Challenge to challenge people to come up with a screening kit to test methyl mercury levels in human body. The result of this open innovation challenge where two promising concepts for diagnosis of toxic metal poisoning of the human body and environment. In 2013 Outside Inc. takes this concept to the next level.
Heavy metal poisoning, like mercury, can have enormous negative influences on a person’s concentration, motivation, mental acuity, memory capacity, immune system, psychological and physical well-being.
Together with the concept owners and the support of our partner Clear Light Ventures we’re executing the business development of the medical device. The shared goal is to develop an affordable – easy to use – self test for methyl-mercury. We use an approach inspired by “The Lean Startup”. On the one hand this stage includes the peer review of the technical feasibility of both concepts by the concept owners and other involved stakeholders. On the other hand in this stage we stipulate the minimum viable product (MVP), do further market research, perform customer validation and map the network of potential partners. With use of for example the Business Model Canvas, we shape the business model.
As a result at the end of Q3 2013 we will have a brief and validated overview on technical feasibility and a preliminary business plan. These deliverables facilitate the decision making for the next stage and further venturing by Outside Inc., Clear Light Ventures and the concept owners.
